IHIP App: Mobile Reporting for Health Workers

IHIP has an official Android app for field reporting, but we could not confirm any official Play Store listing. This guide explains what the manuals say, how to reach the app through official channels, and how to spot unofficial copies.

Many health workers search for an "IHIP app" or "IDSP app download" because their supervisor has asked them to report from a phone. The Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP), launched on 5 April 2021, does support mobile reporting. Official training material includes a session on installing the "IHIP" Android app, and the manuals describe health workers sending data and alerts from the app.

What we could not find is an official app store listing with a confirmed name and publisher. So this page does not give a store link. Instead it explains how to reach the app only through official routes, what you can do on mobile, and how to protect your user ID. This site is an independent guide. It is not run by MoHFW or NCDC and it never asks for your password or OTP. For the platform as a whole, start with our IHIP portal guide.

What official material says about the IHIP mobile app

The evidence for the app comes from official IHIP documents, not from an app store page. Here is what each one says:

  • Training agenda: a session titled "Download & installation of 'IHIP' android app on smart phones" (IHIP download file 3).
  • DSO user manual: a menu path "Downloads" then "Download App" for the Android version (file 26).
  • Event Alert and Outbreak Investigation manual: health workers can raise Event Alerts through the "IHIP mobile app" (file 24).
  • Administration menu manual: usage reports count "S Form (Desktop)" and "S Form (Mobile)" separately (file 25), so both routes are in real use.
  • NHM Assam IDSP guideline (FY 2024 to 26): syndromic reporting (S form) in the IDSP-IHIP portal "in real-time basis through Android Mobile App".

The 2021 PIB launch release also says data come from grassroots workers using tablets and that reports can be viewed on mobile and other devices. Put together, the app is official, but it appears to be handed out from inside the portal and through district training rather than advertised publicly.

What you can do on the app and what stays on the desktop portal

The manuals do not give one complete list of app features. The table below sticks to what they state and marks the rest as not confirmed.

TaskOn mobile?What the sources say
S form (Suspected Cases) by sub-centre staffYesHealth Sub Centre users can report on desktop or mobile; usage reports split S Form (Desktop) and S Form (Mobile).
Event Alert (unusual cases or deaths)YesHealth workers can raise Event Alerts through the IHIP mobile app.
P form (Presumptive Cases) by doctorsNot confirmedThe P form manual describes health facility users working on the portal. We found no statement about P form on the app.
L form (Laboratory Cases Form)Not confirmedThe lab manuals describe portal screens such as "Add Patient Record" and "Line Listing".
Viewing reportsYes, on mobile devicesPIB says reports are viewable on mobile and other devices.

If you are a doctor or lab user, plan on using the desktop portal unless your DSO tells you otherwise. See the S form guide for what sub-centre staff enter, and IHIP user roles for who reports what.

Stay safe. IHIP has one official address: ihip.mohfw.gov.in. This guide has no login. Never share your IHIP user ID, password or OTP with anyone, including callers or messages that claim to be from the district or state, and never send patient details to unofficial groups or websites. Password resets go through your own login page or your district surveillance unit.

How to get the IHIP app through official channels only

Because no store listing is confirmed, the safest route is through your own reporting chain. Follow these steps:

  1. Ask your supervisor first. Your PHC Medical Officer or the District Surveillance Unit (DSU, जिला निगरानी इकाई) knows which app version your state uses. Official IHIP training has included a session on installing the app.
  2. Get your user ID before installing. There is no self-registration. The DSO requests a new user ID and the State Surveillance Officer (SSO) approves it. Each ID is tied to one health facility.
  3. Use the official portal address only. Type ihip.mohfw.gov.in/idsp yourself in the browser. Do not follow links in forwarded messages.
  4. Find the download inside the portal. The DSO manual shows the menu "Downloads" then "Download App" (Android Version). If you do not see this menu in your role, ask the DSU to share the file from there.
  5. Install and sign in. Your phone may ask permission to install a file from outside an app store. Allow this only for a file you got from the official portal or directly from your DSU. Sign in with the user ID and password issued to you.
  6. Test with your supervisor. Enter one practice report under guidance and confirm it shows on the portal before relying on the app for weekly reporting.

Warning: unofficial IHIP and IDSP apps

An app that uses the words IHIP or IDSP in its name is not automatically official. We did not confirm any official listing, so treat every store app with these names as unverified until your DSU confirms it.

An unofficial app can do real harm. It can copy your user ID and password, collect the OTP used to reset your password, or capture case details that belong only in the government system. Even an app built in good faith by a third party may show old forms or old addresses.

Signs that an app or link is not genuine:

  • It asks you to register yourself. Official IDs come only through the DSO and SSO.
  • It asks for your OTP outside the official "Reset Password" screen.
  • It points to an address other than ihip.mohfw.gov.in, or to the old ihip.nhp.gov.in or idsp.nhp.gov.in addresses, which have been replaced.
  • It promises "IDSP results", payments or certificates. IHIP is a reporting system, not a public service app.
  • It is shared by an unknown number or group instead of your MO or DSU.

If you have already entered your password into a doubtful app, report it to your DSO and ask for a password reset straight away.

Signing in and passwords on the app

The manuals we read do not describe a separate app login, so expect to use the user ID issued to you for the portal, and confirm this with your DSU. The manuals show IDs built from a role code, state code, district code and facility number, for example "lb28cht0051" for a laboratory. On the portal, sign-in needs the username, password and a 4-digit captcha. Manuals ask users not to change the initial password for six months, and to complete "My Profile" on first login.

If you forget your password, the official route is "Reset Password" on the Sign In page. You enter your username and the OTP sent to the mobile number saved in My Profile. The SSO can also reset any user's password. Keep your registered mobile number up to date, or the OTP will go to an old phone. Our IHIP login help page covers errors in more detail. Never share your password or OTP with anyone, including people who claim to be from a helpdesk.

Reporting rules that apply on mobile too

The app does not change the reporting rules. The IHIP P form manual says users are expected to enter data every day, and the manuals say the date of onset should fall within 30 days before the reporting date. Back-dated entry is discouraged. Performance is still reviewed week by week, using the Monday to Sunday IDSP week. Our reporting schedule guide explains the week and the older deadlines.

For unusual clusters, the app's Event Alert is meant to be quick. Raise it as soon as you notice a rise in similar cases or any unexplained death, then inform your MO. Our outbreak reporting guide explains trigger levels and what the Rapid Response Team does next.

When the app does not work: helpdesk and Report Problem

The IHIP manuals list a toll-free "IDSP Helpdesk" number, 1-800-180-1104, shown at the top of portal pages. We could not verify that it is still live in 2026, so confirm it with your DSU. The portal also has a "Report Problem" form where you describe the issue and attach screenshots. Do not include patient names or other identifying details in screenshots.

One more point: some guides claim the app GPS-tags every entry. We found no official statement on that. NCDC material mentions geocoding and epidemiological mapping, and the manuals have map views, but that is not the same claim. If you moved from the old system, our IHIP vs old IDSP portal page explains what changed.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official IHIP app download on the Play Store?

We could not confirm an official Play Store listing, its name or its publisher, so we do not link to one. Official IHIP manuals describe the Android app being downloaded from the portal menu "Downloads" then "Download App", and official IHIP training has included an installation session. Ask your Medical Officer or District Surveillance Unit which source to use before installing anything.

Is the IDSP app the same as the IHIP app?

IDSP is the surveillance programme and IHIP is the platform where IDSP data are now entered, often called the IDSP-IHIP portal. The official material we found refers to the "IHIP" Android app and the "IHIP mobile app". An app labelled "IDSP app" in a store is not confirmed as official, so check with your DSU first.

Who can use the IHIP mobile app?

The manuals link the app mainly to health workers at Health Sub Centres, who enter the S form on desktop or mobile and can raise Event Alerts from the app. You need a user ID created through your DSO and approved by the SSO, because IHIP has no self-registration. We found no official statement that the P form or L form can be filled on the app.

Can I register on the IHIP app myself?

No. The IHIP Administration Menu manual says only the State Surveillance Officer manages user accounts, and DSOs raise a "Request for new user id" for approval. Any app or website that lets you create your own IHIP account, or asks you to pay for one, should be treated as unofficial and reported to your DSU.

What should I do if I entered my password in a fake app?

Tell your DSO at once and change your password through "Reset Password" on the official IHIP portal, using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number. The SSO can also reset passwords. Then remove the doubtful app from your phone and warn colleagues who received the same link.

Does the IHIP app work without internet?

The official sources we checked do not say whether the app can store entries offline and send them later. They describe near-real-time digital entry. If connectivity is poor in your area, ask your MO or DSU how your district handles delayed entries, keeping in mind that manuals discourage back-dated entry.
